Bathhouse Benchmarking Survey Launches Amid Rapid Global Growth
The Global Wellness Institute’s (GWI) Hydrothermal and Consulting Best Practices Initiatives have partnered to launch a first-of-its-kind global bathhouse benchmarking survey for bathhouse, communal thermal wellness and sauna operators of all sizes.

GWI is a global nonprofit that brings together industry leaders to advance research, education and best practices across the wellness economy.
The survey is open to owners and operators of facilities of all sizes—from large-scale bathhouses and communal thermal wellness destinations to independent and mobile sauna businesses.
“Bathhouses are opening at a remarkable pace, yet there is still very little reliable data available about the business and operational models behind them,” said Cassandra Cavanah, vice chair of the GWI Hydrothermal Initiative. “Our goal is to begin establishing meaningful benchmarks that will help the industry better understand what it takes to build and operate successful bathhouses of all sizes.”
The survey explores areas including facility size and type, thermal experiences, pricing and revenue models, staffing, operations, cleaning and maintenance practices, guided sauna rituals and future growth plans.
“Operators are navigating a fast-growing sector without many established benchmarks to guide decision-making,” said Lisa Starr, chair of the GWI Consulting Best Practices Initiative. “By bringing together insights from businesses around the world, we hope to create a valuable resource for both established operators and those planning new concepts.”
The confidential survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Participants will receive early access to the findings, which are expected to be released in September 2026.
