At a press event in New York City hosted in collaboration with Good Housekeeping and the Good Housekeeping Institute, the Global Wellness Institute and the Global Wellness Summit released new data on the US physical activity market and the top 10 global wellness trends for 2020.
Global Economy of Physical Activity: US Data
GWI researchers revealed new US data from its recent study: Move To Be Well: The Global Economy of Physical Activity at a press conference in New York. Showing how the US leads and lags within the six-sector global physical activity economy, including the fitness, sports & active recreation, mindful movement, equipment, apparel/footwear and technology markets. The data shows a sharp divide between the “haves and have-nots” in the United States – which leads in spending and innovation of the physical activity market worldwide, but ranks just #20 in participation.

2020 Global Wellness Trends
The Global Wellness Summit released its top 10 wellness trends for 2020, the new directions that will have the most meaningful—not fleeting—impact on the $4.5 trillion global wellness industry. The trends emerged from the insights of the 550 experts from 50 nations that gathered at the recent Summit and include a shifting from sleep to true circadian health, aging getting a cool rebrand, a surge in fertility and mental wellness technology and the rise of wellness music and the wellness sabbatical.
