I believe that the essence of wellness is love. We are encouraged to take care of ourselves by letting ourselves be treated well; like we matter.  But what about the people whose traditions and wisdom we excavate? And in some cases, appropriate?

How does that love and mattering translate into the spaces we create, and for whom?

I am watching intently as we are reconnecting with ways and wisdoms held by the ancestors (not necessarily ours). As referenced in the Inclusive Wellness Initiatives 2025 Trends, Indigenous, Traditional Ecological Knowledge (ITEK) is showing up and taking root.  As we are recognizing the immense knowledge in things we thought were ‘simple’ or ‘primitive’, it’s as if we are opening to the old, but with new eyes.

This is an Exciting Time

A time that could create a circle of connection. Past and present. Separateness and wholeness. Awareness. Understanding. A circle that recognizes and honours the diversity and complexity of the human family – and the knowledge, wisdom and different ways of being that go with it.

Imagine the power of ancient wisdom in context. Not just learning about, but learning with and learning within (for example integrating epigenetic principles into somatic practices – as referenced in our 3rd trend for 2025).

redefining wellness

Not just taking, but holding.

Sharing.

Making space for greater understanding – a place where mine becomes ours as we acknowledge what has come before and how we are offering it now.

Wellness is Love

If wellness is about love, then the many modalities that have been shaped by culture, the many insights that have been shaped through trauma, and the many medicines that have been shaped by the land and its offerings are indeed for everyone. And, recognizing and respecting their origins is a critical component of their use.

When we use these modalities, insights and medicines with true acknowledgment, we create (or maintain) a circle of connection. Circles that invite, welcome, and allow the true magic of wellness through valuing the diversity of the human family in all aspects – from design to client.

Making room, so all people know they matter.
