The History of the Wellness Moonshot
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy challenged the United States to create an ecosystem of innovation to land a man on the Moon. Once viewed as a lofty goal, it had a ripple effect of positive impact and popularized the term “moonshot” around the world.
In 2017, the Global Wellness Institute (GWI) launched The Wellness Moonshot: A World Free of Preventable Disease, and today, our task at hand is to apply “Moonshot Thinking” to achieve our purpose as thought-leaders, to set long-range goals with greater urgency.
Why now more than ever? This past year has posed such obvious, immeasurable and unforeseeable challenges to physical and mental wellbeing, our livelihoods, and the typical systems we relied upon to combat preventable disease. The new year should be embraced as more than an inflection point because 2020 has challenged conventional thinking.
