About the GWI Research Fellows
The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) Research Fellows—Ophelia Yeung, Katherine Johnston, Tonia Callender, and Joanne Hopkins—form a dedicated team advancing GWI’s mission to empower wellness worldwide. As part of the nonprofit 501(c)(3), they contribute to GWI’s role as a leading global research and educational resource for the wellness industry, shaping initiatives that define the industry’s future. Together, they have pioneered key studies, including The Global Wellness Economy Monitor, providing critical insights into the wellness economy’s size, scope, and growth.
With expertise spanning economics, public policy, and research, each Fellow brings unique strengths. Ophelia Yeung, with over two decades of experience, has helped establish frameworks defining the wellness industry. Katherine Johnston has led groundbreaking research on wellness sectors such as tourism and mental wellness. Tonia Callender focuses on mental health policy and equitable development, while Joanne Hopkins applies her analytical skills from energy policy to wellness research. Their combined work educates governments, businesses, and individuals on improving well-being globally.
