Respiratory Wellness Initiative

2022 Trends

TREND 1: Respiratory Conditions on the Rise

Major indicators predict a significant increase in respiratory conditions throughout the world due to new and evolving airborne pathogens along with the impact that climate change is having on the environment such as extended seasonal allergies, shifting conditions of wildfires, and black carbon and methane—which all affect the quality of the air we breathe.

TREND 2: Making the Invisible Visible: Clean Air Matters

One of the leading causes of respiratory diseases is directly related to poor air quality.  Air pollution in our cities and homes kills millions of people every year and accelerates climate change. New emerging technologies and research will bring new and tested products to the commercial and residential market along with new policies and guidelines for building and renovating “healthy and well” spaces to live and work.

TREND 3: Self-Care Integrates with Traditional Health Care

Over the past few years there has been a significant increase in self-care practices as more people become educated and aware of emerging evidence-based modalities, particularly focused on respiratory wellness.  Other technologies such as enhanced lung function devices, breathwork apps, air quality technologies and much more are being integrated into overall health care strategies from pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, integrated physicians and other medical professionals for impacting respiratory health and wellness.

TREND 4: Longevity and Quality of Life

Respiratory health and hygiene are the focus of several new studies that correlate respiratory wellness to the quality and longevity of life.  Without a healthy respiratory system, symptoms progressively compromise one’s ability to function normally in terms of day-to-day activities and can impair sleep quality. Enhancing respiratory wellness through self-care, bio-hacking and new emerging technologies will show significant results in enhancing quality and longevity of life.

TREND 5: Third-Party Pay for Wellness

The health care pendulum has started to shift from reactive, traditional “diagnosing and prescribing” health care towards more proactive and preventative measures. Many insurance companies are understanding better how wellness modalities are not only impacting overall health but also reducing healthcare costs.  As an example, some Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) have started to accept various wellness modalities such as dry salt therapy/halotherapy, cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers and treatments as this trend will continue.
