Earlier reports claimed that the U.S. was finally making a headway with childhood obesity, but those hopes were crushed this week as a new Duke University study showed that’s not the case: The percentage of obese children ages 2-19 increased from 14% in 1999 to 18.5% in 2016. Very worrying: A big jump in obesity among the youngest children aged 2-5: from 9% to 14%. Researchers noted: ”The earlier you start seeing obesity, the harder it is to address it.” Fresh evidence that the GWI’s Wellness MoonshotTM for a world free of preventable disease needs to focus on the youngest children.
