Dr. Brandon Alderman
Professor, Department of Exercise Science and Sport Studies
Rutgers University
Brandon Alderman has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Studies since 2009. Previously, he held an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Kinesiology and Health at the University of Wyoming. He completed his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Exercise Science at Arizona State University with an emphasis in Exercise Psychology and Psychophysiology. His laboratory is focused on investigating the effects of exercise on neurocognitive and physiological resilience. Currently, ongoing projects include establishing the potential efficacy of acute and chronic exercise (both aerobic and resistance exercise) for attenuating cardiovascular responses and increasing heart rate variability (HRV) during acute laboratory stressors. This work has helped to elucidate mechanisms underlying the effects of exercise on other mental health states (e.g., anxiety, depression, cognitive functioning). His laboratory is also evaluating the role of exercise in modulating cardiorespiratory function and neurocognitive function. Dr. Alderman’s investigations use advanced psychophysiological techniques including impedance cardiography (ICG) and electroencephalography (EEG) to better understand acute and chronic adaptations to exercise.
